At least as difficult as initiating a digital transformation is the execution of Industry 4.0 or Internet of Things based projects. For that purpose organisation need to have a digital architecture in place comprising the entity, people, data, technology, operations and the network (refer to figure below). Taking supply chain management as an example, IoT based applications allow for a seamless integration of processes from cradle-to-cradle. For the execution of new technology an organizations need to find the right balance between feasibility checks and learning by failing. I will to combine the different architectures and make sure that the every execution of digital projects leads to advances.
Silos and isolated departments have to perish if digital technologies are to be adopted successfully. A light house project, for instance, serves as an hands-on example for setting up new digital use cases. A successful initiation of truly digital processes depends on various stakeholder. For instance the customers, the employees, the corporate sponsors and external experts to mention the most important ones. Another important factor is how to plan a digital lighthouse project. A typical project is outline divided into three steps: imagine, deliver and run. It provides a good starting point to initiate your digital transformation.
